Wayne Henson
Photographer

Wayne is an Auckland-based photographer known for his striking black and white portrait, street, and architectural imagery. His work explores the balance between light, structure, and human presence, transforming everyday moments and urban spaces into timeless visual narratives.

Wayne’s passion for photography began at a young age when he first discovered film photography. Learning the craft in the era of negatives and darkrooms taught him patience, precision, and a deep respect for light and composition. The deliberate process of shooting film shaped his visual style and continues to influence the way he approaches photography today.

In recent years, Wayne has embraced digital photography as a powerful creative tool. Using modern cameras alongside editing platforms such as Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop, he refines his images to create bold, expressive works of art while maintaining the classic character that first inspired him. His signature black and white aesthetic allows form, texture, and emotion to take centre stage.

Much of Wayne’s work is inspired by the city he calls home. The streets, waterfronts, and evolving skyline of Auckland provide a constant source of subject matter. From quiet street scenes to dramatic architectural lines and intimate portrait sessions, he captures the spirit and character of the city through a timeless monochrome lens.

Today, Wayne continues to blend traditional photographic foundations with modern digital artistry. Whether photographing people, urban environments, or architectural details, his goal remains the same: to create images that feel authentic, powerful, and enduring.
