Dominique Victoria, originally from South Africa and now a proud resident of Aotearoa for the past seven years, has found both home and artistic inspiration in the diverse cultural landscape of New Zealand. As a self-taught artist and mother of three teenagers, she has embraced the opportunity to refine her craft, exploring a rich palette of mediums including charcoal, acrylics, pencils, and increasingly, oils.
Dominique's style leans towards realism, especially in her depictions of animals, though she occasionally delves into contemporary themes.
Her work is deeply influenced by cultural motifs and a sense of nostalgia, capturing the essence of her subjects with a vibrancy that reflects her personal journey and the expansive hues of her adopted homeland.
A significant milestone in her career was the publication and illustration of her children's book, "Zoo Hair Adventure," in 2019, which allowed her to merge her narrative skills with her artistic vision, bringing joy and wonder to young readers. Additionally, participating in ArtBattle highlighted her commitment to community and collaboration, fostering connections and learning through the shared experience of creation.

Cultural Stamp Collection

By: Dominique Victoria
In my latest ongoing collection, "Cultural Stamp Collection," I delve into the vibrant cultural depictions of New Zealand using a carefully selected palette from Resene. The colors Hero (Orange), All Black (Black), Havoc (Red), Tequila Sunrise (Beige), Red Hot (Red), Desperado (Brown), and White capture the essence and bold imagery integral to my stamp collection series. These hues not only enrich the storytelling of each piece but also ensure consistency across the collection. By choosing Resene paints, I can trust the vibrancy and quality to remain true, allowing each color to play its part in narrating New Zealand’s rich cultural tapestry.
