Sean Mc Donnell
Artist
Sean Mc Donnell is a first-generation New Zealander with Irish roots, hailing from Wellington and raised on Auckland’s North Shore. A graduate of Elam School of Fine Arts in 2001, Sean has been passionately involved in the art scene both nationally and internationally since then. Known for his bold, vibrant artworks that reflect the New Zealand landscape, he works primarily with oil paints, alongside screenprints, intaglio etching, and woodblock prints.
Sean's art captures the brevity and beauty of life, employing a palette of clouds, sunsets, and organic shapes. Influenced by Edvard Munch and Van Gogh among others, his work has evolved from using found materials to selecting high-quality surfaces and paints for longevity.
Significant milestones include his first solo show in New Zealand, exhibiting internationally, and establishing his own studio and gallery. Sean continues to explore new artistic frontiers, eagerly anticipating collaborations that could enrich his expressive journey.
