THE SANDMAN - Marcus Winter

Marcus, aka The Sandman, is an acclaimed New Zealand artist who has gained international recognition for his captivating sand art performances. He will be performing a LIVE demo of his creative storytelling mastery, and if you have never seen the Sandman in action, you're in for a treat. Marcus will then be on hand to share tips and techniques throughout the show.

Truly inspirational! - With māori whakapapa to the tribes of Ngāpuhi, Te Roroa, and Ngāti Pou enriched with Dutch ancestry. Marcus draws from his Māori heritage, using sand as a medium to tell intricate stories that reflect the rich cultural traditions of Aotearoa. His live performances, often featured on international cruise ships and at cultural festivals, are truly mesmerising spectacles. He crafts detailed sand animations on a lightbox, bringing to life the myths, history, and natural beauty of New Zealand.

Marcus is dedicated to educating and inspiring future generations. His initiative, "A Lightbox in Every School," aims to introduce sand art as an alternative learning tool, providing an engaging platform for storytelling and cultural expression. This project encourages students to explore creativity while connecting with their heritage, offering a unique way to engage in the learning environment.
