Steve Bolton

Steve Bolton is an Auckland based artist working in a wide range of styles and media. Primarily a painter and printmaker, he also works as a cartoonist, with elements of his cartooning style and approach often evident in his painting and printmaking work. He also works as a creative drawing and printmaking tutor, muralist and occasional sculptor.

With influences drawn from science, the media, biology, nature and both recent and ancient history, his work examines and documents the internal and external elements of life. The kitsch, the crass, the inconvenient and uncomfortable – the dreams and memories, the chaotic and sometimes sinister elements - but also the funny, happy, absurd, beautiful, quiet and still aspects of our private and external experiences.

His painting and print work is shown regularly in individual, shared and groups shows while his cartoons appear most often in The New Zealand Listener.
