Bryn Corkery
Artist | Tutor

Bryn Corkery is a multimedia artist originally from Dunedin, now based in Titirangi, Auckland.

His practice is constantly evolving as he brings together a range of media and processes to create unique combinations that draw attention to the often-overlooked details of everyday life in Aotearoa.

Driven by a passion for making art for art’s sake, Bryn enjoys taking part in a wide range of collaborative and community-based projects. From education and public art to personal and social works, he’s always willing to experiment, test ideas, and learn through making.

Bryn’s style is experimental and intuitive. When painting, he starts with a loose idea and builds the work in stages — painting, reflecting, and adding more as it develops. This flexible process often leads to results that mix elements of surrealism and expressionism. In his photography, Bryn looks for beauty in hidden or overlooked places, capturing quiet scenes away from people.

Currently working with ceramics, Bryn’s recent series documents the transformation of local buildings as Auckland’s cityscape intensifies. By combining photography, lino-cutting techniques, and painting with ceramic processes, he creates lasting records of familiar buildings that are disappearing from view.

Living and working in the bush-clad community of Titirangi, Bryn is dedicating more time to his studio practice, producing an expanding body of expressive, realist work. He regularly exhibits across New Zealand and takes on commissions. Most recently, Bryn placed second in the Upstairs Art Gallery Emerging Artist Awards, receiving the Marokii Vano Award for a cluster of tiles depicting a building slated for demolition.
